I was thinking of getting the EVGA GeForce GTX 260.

What you all think? Should I bother?

The GTX 260 series "Talk about a cheep upgrade"? Why not get the 280's for a minimum start and maybe consider the 295 as on optional card. IE; Buying one of them for the time being and getting the SLI configuration later as well if your going to be using Duel or Tri.

Also "Edit" You got the 8800's like last year did you not? Like since your running a current SLI configuration on your computer I know for a fact games won't lag in full graphics using them cards.
I also know there a bit old and all but surely not outdated for games.

I was thinking of the 280 but I have other things that I need the money for. My 8800's are 2 and a half years old now and your right, I can run most games at full except for Farcry 2 which lags like a crack whore on sedatives. Then again I am stuck using 1280x1024 screen resolution at least until Christmas. I wasn't planning on upgrading like NOW but hopefully at sometime in the next few months depending on my financial situation.

Radeon 4870 X2 or 4870 if your cheap, or 4890. Only if your amd though, 280 minimum for NVIDIA

Oh man they have a GeForce GTX 275 super clocked Edition 1792MB. My god talk about degraded life span vrs the 280 at normal operations.

Edit; I'd be hooking this card right into the system liquid cooling to be safe.

I could always SLI the 260 OC Edition costs about the same as a 280 OC. But if I did that I might need to get a larger PSW.

Also, LOL http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130500
overpriced, just like macs.

You could SLI the 2-260's but my point is why bother getting the 260's in the first place.
Like what's the price difference between the 260/280 if its under 150$ per card you may as well go with the 280 series and save your self the future trouble of having to upgrade sooner down the road. "Spend a little more to go further"

Edit; Like I understand money can be an issue with computer components/addons. However, you have to look at it this way are the other thing's you need a necessity? A PSU would be depending on the watts needed for powering the 280's. However, you can buy an addon PSU that can hook up into a drive bay. "Specially designed for video card applications." Or just extra power for where/when you need it.

I'll probably end up going for the 280 but not until I get a new monitor.

That's good to know that your going to go for the 280's over the 260s which don't really make much sense other then being a lower end card for people who are on budgets. (Wanna be gaming rigs)

What kind of monitor are you looking to get for you computer setup?
-Acer makes good ones if your still looking.

I haven't even started looking yet. You got any suggestions? I would like at least 22" no more than 24" and a high max screen resolution.

I don't mean to be a negative but this monitor is crap it has a 5.0 response time and no customer reviews to back it up. I wouldn't be touching that thing, beside that I've not even heard of that brand before.

Acer, Samsung, That one brand with the colored bird I forgot the name there good too.
